Our pupils are looking forward to an exciting year ahead in the Duke of Edinburgh's Awards Scheme.
Dr Sean Wilkinson, our Head of Chemistry and DofE Coordinator, is excited to plan many more expeditions in the future and to ensure that our pupils thoroughly enjoy DofE and learn as much as possible from the experience all while making great memories.
The Duke of Edinburgh's Award Scheme is an extra-curricular activity offered at Glenalmond which encourages pupils to go the extra mile.
DofE focuses on supporting young people, through self-development, to gain new talents, abilities or perspectives.
Dr Wilkinson has provided the update below:
It’s a privilege to now be running the award scheme at Coll and I look forward to continuing to implement expeditions at all levels of the award whilst ensuring there are enhancements to the delivery of the other elements of DofE. Some changes are in the pipeline and, through a phased transition, one of which is looking to better map the timeframe of the various award levels with the school year.
Level Update:
Gold Award
With the vast majority of the Upper Sixth completing their expedition section last term, all that remains is the final hurdle of organising (or logging) a residential and ensuring all other records are up to date on eDofE. I will be in touch with this cohort individually in the near future and would anticipate completion for most by the end of Lent 2022 in time for presentation in the summer.
Registration for the new Lower Sixth Gold cohort will commence just before half term.
Silver Award
Those who started the award in Fifth Form last year should be in the final stages of getting things together on eDofE and completion in the next few weeks is the target. There is a catch up assessment expedition for the walking group planned for just before half term (details will be released shortly) but that should bring closure to this level, and thus, an opportunity to commence to Gold. Silver certificates will be presented at Prizegiving next summer.
Bronze Award
Last year this was successfully implemented under the umbrella of CCF and the majority of the current Fifth Form completed an expedition in the closing stages of last term. We will be encouraging these pupils to work hard to get the other elements of the award completed and signed off by the end of this term. Pupils who complete the award by December will have the option to progress to a six month Silver programme.
New Fourth Form recruits to the CCF will be able to start the ball rolling shortly with a target to be receiving their Bronze certificates in June.
