GLENALMOND PUPILS DELIGHTED TO SECURE UNIVERSITY PLACES

Glenalmond College is delighted all of its final year university applicants have this year succeeded in securing places at their universities of choice.

Pupils are over the moon to hear the news that their university places, and those of their classmates, have been confirmed via the UCAS process, following today’s release of the A-Level and SQA Higher results. 

After an anxious wait for results, given the exceptional circumstances over the past 18 months, pupils were particularly delighted and relieved to have their places confirmed.

Glenalmond pupils are now bound for universities including Oxford, University College London, Glasgow School of Art, Durham, Edinburgh, St Andrews andBristol.The courses they will be embarking on range from Medicine, Architecture, Archeology, Biomedical Science and Mechanical Engineering to Theatre Studies, Law, Design, Psychology, Business Management, Zoology and International Relations.

Among those who are thrilled to be embarking on their course of choice are Sofia Roberts (pictured above) who is bound for Exeter University to study Politics and International Relations and Adam Orviss who is going to study Maths at Edinburgh University.

Others who are delighted to have achieved their first choice university placements include Charlie Bradshaw who will be working at prep schools in England and Australia before going on to study Politics, Philosophy and Economics and Matthew Bittle who will be studying Law at University College London.

“This week’s results are a huge credit not only to our pupils but also to our hardworking teachers, and my sincere thanks go to all our staff for rising to the challenges of the past 18 months,” said Dr Michael Alderson, Head of Glenalmond.

“Our pupils were very fortunate in being able to benefit from live lessons and continuity of education at a very difficult time for everyone. It is incredibly rewarding for our staff, after such a trying period, to hear that all of our pupils are bound for their universities of choice,” added Dr Alderson.

Glenalmond’s distinctive 3+ curriculum, combining three A-Levels with a Higher, plus the benefit of the  Extended Project Qualification (EPQ) - effectively a mini-dissertation - combined to help Sixth Form pupils secure particularly strong UCAS points totals, averaging 153 points on the UCAS tariff.

Mrs Jenny Davey, Glenalmond Sub-Warden (Academic), said a large number of the 74 final year pupils has also left Glenalmond with the benefit of a Language Higher under their belts, particularly important in the post-Brexit era.

She said the pupils had to work particularly hard and show a great deal of flexibility this year. 

“Pupils rose to the challenges of a term of mini assessments which meant a sustained period of scrutiny, which was very different to a normal exam experience. Through a robust process, they have very much earned their result success and our very best wishes go to all our leavers for successful and enjoyable university courses and careers,” said Mrs Davey
