Announcement academic

Congratulations to our Upper Sixth leavers on their A Level results earlier today.

Nearly 80% of grades achieved were A* - C, with 100% of pupils awarded A* - B results in French, Spanish, German, Chinese, Russian, History, Latin, Religious Studies, Classical Civilisation and Computer Science.

The percentage of this year’s A* to A grades has doubled since the previous year, with improved results also achieved at every grade band.

We are incredibly proud of the achievements of this cohort of pupils. Our Class of 2024 will go on to take up places at many different institutions in Scotland, the UK and internationally, such as Edinburgh, St Andrews, Exeter, Bath, Glasgow, Aberdeen, Cirencester, Northumbria and York, with the top university destination this year being Edinburgh.

Particular congratulations to our Captains of Coll, Jamie C-M and Charlotte H, who achieved excellent results - AAA and A*AAB respectively. Jamie will read Philosophy at the University of St Andrews, the leading university in the UK in 2024 by the Times and Sunday Times Good University Guide while Charlotte plans to study in Germany.

Annabel B achieved A*A*A in her English, Art, and Drama and will go on to study Fine Art at the University of the Arts, London, ranked second in the world for Art and Design in the 2024 QS World University Rankings.

A special mention too, for Tessa C and Jamie W, on achieving straight As in their chosen subjects.

Mark Mortimer, Warden at Glenalmond, is delighted with this year’s results and said, “Many congratulations to all those Glenalmond Upper Sixth pupils who received their A-level results today.

“The bare statistics are impressive, with twice the number of A*/A grades to last year, and almost 60% in the A* - B range.  While I am delighted with the results and the number of top grades achieved, what I am most proud of is the fact that almost all the pupils have fulfilled their academic potential and, in the majority of cases, are off to the right course at the right university for them.  That is really important. While Edinburgh remains the most popular destination for Glenalmond leavers, they will be spread far and wide across the UK and the world.

“Their success reflects their effort and dedication during their years here and is also due to the diligence and commitment of their teachers. I wish them every success for the future.”

Glenalmond is proud to offer an extensive range of A Levels, Higher and Advanced Higher subjects in Lower and Upper Sixth, as well as the BTEC in Countryside Management. This extended range of academic pathways offers breadth to the curriculum and greater flexibility for pupils, who are able to mix and match the three qualifications, designed to suit their strengths and, indeed, their interests.

Today’s grades continue the strong set of Glenalmond results achieved in our Highers earlier this month, which is a testament to the hard work and determination of our pupils and staff.
