We are thrilled to welcome Padre Duncan Weaver as Coll’s new Chaplain. (His title comes from the Armed Forces tradition.) With a wealth of experience, Duncan brings a unique blend of faith, compassion, and wisdom to our community.
His journey of service began in 1980 when he joined the Metropolitan Police, working in central and North London. Rising to the rank of Sergeant in 1985, Duncan dedicated 12 years to serving the public. From 1992 to 1994, he trained for ordination at St John’s College, Nottingham, and was soon appointed as a curate at St Mary's, Watford, where he served from 1994 to 1998.
Duncan’s journey then led him to the role of vicar in the villages near Salisbury, where he nurtured communities and deepened his commitment to his faith. From 2001 to 2017, he served as an Army Chaplain, providing spiritual care to soldiers in some of the world’s most challenging environments, including Kosovo, Iraq, Northern Ireland and Afghanistan.
After leaving the Armed Forces, Padre Duncan was Chaplain at Bloxham School near Banbury, Oxfordshire, from 2017 to 2021. Most recently, he served as Pilgrim Pastor for the Fife Pilgrim Way, a role that combined his love for both pilgrimage and pastoral care.
Outside of his pastoral duties, Duncan has always had a strong passion for sports. A lifelong rugby and cricket enthusiast, he now enjoys swimming and cycling to keep active. His love for the outdoors extends to gardening and cooking, where he finds joy in creating and nurturing.
Next summer, he plans to complete a pilgrimage cycle ride from Santiago de Compostela to St Andrews, a journey that reflects his deep spiritual commitment and sense of adventure.
As our new Chaplain, Padre Duncan hopes to create a chapel that serves as a place of discovery and reflection for all. He envisions the space as one where the Coll Community can find moments of peace, inspiration, and connection.
We are delighted to have Padre Duncan as part of our community and look forward to the many ways he will enrich it.
